Christmas Came Early

My friend Tom Christmas must have been a good boy this year, as his early season trip to Tignes was unbelievably good for the first week of December. I put together this video as a reminder of how good the snow was. Please excuse the snowboarding, but I’ve been know to dabble in it from time to time.

I made the video using a free and open source editor for Linux called OpenShot, which is the best I have used so far. If you are interested in trying out OpenShot and Linux you can download a live DVD from and test out this free software without messing up your Windows computer.

Since making the film, we have seen a rise in temperature and a spot of rain in Tignes, which has played havoc with my off-piste skiing schedule, but the pistes have remained soft and are in good condition. I just skied down to Les Breviers and skinned back up and it looks like with a bit of piste-bashing the runs down to bottom will be open soon.

Armed with my video camera, I hope to get plenty more footage from Tignes so watch this space.

Ski Tips From The Freestyle Underground

I stumbled upon a a great You-Tube channel The Freestyle Underground and was intrigued by it’s mission to document the skiing moves of a forgotten generation of freestyle skiers.

Ski ballet was showcased for the 1992 Alberville Winter Olympics, and the event was in fact held here in Tignes. The slope, purpose-built for the event, is no longer in use since the sport has fallen into decline.

I’ve been working on a few of these ski tricks, mainly as beginner slope ‘show-off’ material, and was delighted to find some new learning material online.

Have a look at this you-tube clip, and gather some ideas for your next ski trip!

Perfect pow

Long time, no blog. I’ve had a belter today so I though I better post something.

Ania, Louis and I were out and about in the best powder we’ve had in a couple of weeks, and I put this short film together. I’m loving the randomness of youtube’s audioswap feature. Hickory Dickory Dock seems to fit perfectly with this video montage…

As you can see the weather and snow was fantastic. We had a couple of days of lousy visibility this week, though on the whole the weather has been kind.

I had the pleasure of skiing with Jane Peel from last weekend, when we were lacking a bit of fresh powder. The blues soundtrack finishes this footage nicely.
